For now

Photobucket

So maybe our nights are not filled with
candle-lit dinners and roses splayed across our bed
and elaborate gifts like watches and paperweights
that will sit in the closet eventually
and take up space that we don't have.

Maybe we both get home from work or school respectively
and argue about whose day was longer,
or whose feet hurt more.

And maybe we eat pasta every night
and fall asleep to the television
and let the laundry pile up.

And maybe I love the way our life is
and someday when we go on candle-lit dinners
and have roses on our bed
and give each other pointless gifts,
I will be wishing we were back here.

And I will miss our pasta and television nights
and sweet whispers of affirmation before falling asleep
and the tufts of hair that come out from under the covers
as you dream about our future.

oh so true. sometimes I think about how nice our life will be in a couple years when I'm not in school and he and I get to see each other more than 20 minutes each day.

but then I think about how in 5 years with a couple babies in our house and different priorities, I'll think about how much I loved sitting on the couch with him and cherishing the little time we spend together in the morning.

I love the way you wrote this...

It's so true. We've been married 5 years now, and we have a house, a baby, and another on the way. Crazy what can happen in 5 years!

We look back on that first newlywed year very, VERY fondly. Nothing like being poor and newlywed...and all the fun things you come up with together to keep entertained on a $0 budget. You're so smitten that it doesn't matter! Enjoy it! And then enjoy the changes that occur as your relationship blossoms into deeper devotion, companionship, and service over the years. It's amazing!

ah, sigh... so true... and looking at the pictures, young, care-free and in love, I was thinking something very simular...

What a blessing.

This is SO true. My husband and I got married a week after you and yours did. And I feel the same way, it's not "like the movies," but it's real - and that's love in my books!

Very well put Mands. loved this post. I do think it will always stay wonderful though, even if a little bit different.

I love this. It is so true! The other day my husband said he missed how cozy our apartment was in college...that apartment was so gross! I was surprised when he said that but then I realized it wasn't that apartment but how much fun we had there together.

As a fellow newly-wed(I think under 5 months still counts right?), I love this! This is so our life too! In fact, we had pasta last night!
The only thing we throw in there is Yahtzee every night. We went the first few months of marriage with no tv and I love the quality time we have spent playing games and interacting. Since we got one, I have been adamant about not letting that change and we've been pretty good. I always think about how some day we'll look back with a smile on these memories of our first months spent together as a family. Love it! So happy!

So well put! Sometimes we spend so much time looking forward to the future that we forget to love the present, every phase of our lives has pros/cons. The key is to live in the moment and enjoy! Miss you and hope all is well!
