Kate

Kevin and I talk about names a lot, not only because we plan on having a dozen children (more or less) and names are a good way to argue about something that doesn't matter yet, but also because we both have names and like to think about what else we could be called.

Mandy. Not Amanda. It is simple and some people say it is cute, but I think because of Mandy Moore and too many horror movies, (as well as a plethora of gas station attendants) my name has been a little cheapened. I also was tragically not given a middle name (bring it up with my parents). I told Kevin we need to name our children names that will guarantee them a romantic lifestyle. His last name is French (Voisin) so if they are living in America they at least will be guaranteed a romantic last name, which means even if we decide on something terrible they will have some hope.

Kevin asked me what I would name myself if I could, and with a lot of thought I decided on the name Kate. Not Katie or Katherine, just Kate. I think the name Kate is simple and romantic and the last name really takes center stage on a name like Kate, making it timeless. Kevin thought it was a boring choice, but I happen to admire a lot of Kate's.

For example:

And I know there are more, that I just haven't thought about.

In case you were wondering, Kevin chose the name Jimmer. Shocker.
I still love him.

What would you name yourself? It is a much different process than naming a child.

my name would be Jane. I love Jane. If I am lucky enough to have another girl...that will be her middle name!

My husband liked the name Rexford when we were pregnant with our first son, I hated it, but now that we're trying for our 2nd, i'm really digging it a lot.

even though i think we're probably a couple of years from kids, i think about names too (probably because i love my name so much!). we definitely want a name with some meaning, and since my husband's last name is jones, i'm convinced names need to be something unique. right now i love emerson, henry, and harper... but who knows what time will tell!

Yeah, my husband and I did the same thing when we were childless. We would send each other random texts say how about such and such? It was fun! I love your last name though, French! How Romantic! You can pair anything with that and it will sound like an actors or actresses name...I have Smith! Yipee!

Cute Mands--I love that name. My sister's real name is just Kate. When she got to high school she told everyone to call her Kate and not Katie (i never came around to it) but her thoughts were along the lines of yours I think. and I think it is a beautiful name. And Mitch said our third son should be named Jimmer---sometimes I wonder if Kevin and Mitch were ready born friends.

Such a thought-provoking post! I adore the name Kate (: You're right, very simple and romantic. The picture is simply beautiful. Let's see...I'm not sure what I would name myself...but I do love the name Madelyn for a baby girl. It's simple also, yet soft and girlie and could be shortened to Mady. What can I say...I've been thinking of kids names since I played with dolls (:

This is hilarious! I don't have a middle name either. It really throws people off! I love Italian names!

i loved this post and i think that's because a)my birth name is katherine and b)i love my name.

i was given my middle name anne (with an 'e' - based off anne of green gables), which i also love.

it's funny how you mentioned that kate is more romantic than katie or katherine. i suppose i'd agree - katie definitely does not have that flare to it. luckily, though, if i ever wanted to be called kate on a regular basis it wouldn't involved any legal proceedings! :)

Kate is darling. I have no clue what I would name myself! I always loved Meg better than Megan though. I like traditional names, obviously since my boy is Charles but we call him Charlie. If we have a girl next I love the name Margaret, with the nickname Maggie :)

I vainly love my name. Pretty sure every single school paper I have has my name on it at least ten times.... Even my ACT booklet. I just really love writing Emma Karen everywhere. But I adore the name Kate, and yes, just Kate, nothing else.

I love the name Lola and Sophia. :) Also Ava.
Gosh, girl names are so easy to pick.
I have a harder time with boys names!

uhhh Kate Winslet?? She is one of my fav actors.

I plan on giving my kids, if any, older style names. I was in love with the name Isabella, but I'd have to see if I'm too scarred from Twilight.... I LOVE Edith. But for me, I like my name.

That is my name! It has always served me well.
I have never once wished to be called something else.

And I agree with Kate Lines. I would totally name a daughter Kate, too, if it weren't weird.

I love Logan, Christa, and Autumn's first comment as well because Jane is my sister's name!

Jane. If I couldn't be a Jane, one of my daughters will have to be.

i could see you being a kate.

and jimmer? haha. that's great.

we talked about naming children the other night... i think it's going to be quite the task between the two of us.

that name jalene has always been unfortunately hard for people to spell of pronounce... but i like that no one else has it.
i've always loved the name jayme... i think i would like that for me, but i think i'll name our first daughter that. :)

Amy. Hoho, gotcha. I love the name Kate. But I also love the name Anne (not little anne) and mostly, Eliza. But I can't see myself besides Jess. I like when people call me Jessie though.

My name would be Hannah! And it would of been if my Dad hadn't change his mind last minute. After years of schooling and there always been around 5 Laura's in my year and not a single Hannah I have longed for the name! Plus it's a palindrome, and I'm an English geek!

So I really did try thinking of another name, but couldn't. I adore my name. Is that vain?

I use to love when I was the only Taylee in the world. And now I hear it every once in a while and get sad. I know, pathetic.

My parents called me 'baby' for the first week of my life because they couldn't come up with a name they liked. I think that makes me love it that much more. They wanted it to be perfect. And it is :)

And don't worry, I don't have a middle name either. However my big guy likes to call me Taylee Ann. It's sweet.

LOVE the name Kate. It's so simple, yet elegant.

mandy is the best name ever! don't doubt!

I never went with Mandy as a nickname--it just never suited me.

And I do like the name Kate! I wouldn't do nicknames on that one either--Katie... just Kate. Nice and Simple.

I'm loving catching up on your blog...don't be mad if I comment away. Kate is such a pretty name. So classic, but modern too I think. And you should add Kate Middleton to your list; I've been so intrigued by her lately.
